Representative Carlos Tobon

Rep. Carlos Tobon represents Pawtucket’s District 58 in the Rhode Island House of Representatives, which includes the neighborhoods of Woodlawn and Fairlawn.

At the State House, Carlos serves on the influential House Committee on Finance, where he is responsible for overseeing the state’s budget of more than $8.5 billion. He also serves on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and the House Committee on the Environment. Carlos is focused on creating jobs and making our communities safer. He has fought hard to renovate our historic buildings, assist victims of wrongful arrest, and keep the Pawtucket Red Sox at McCoy Stadium.

Carlos has lived in Pawtucket his entire life. His first job was as a paperboy for The Times, he is a two-time inductee to the Pawtucket Teen Hall of Fame, and he graduated from Tolman High School as a varsity soccer captain. In 1999, he had the honor of serving as a U.S. Senate Page to the late Rhode Island Senator John Chafee.

Carlos has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to public service. He currently works at Cross Insurance of Rhode Island, where he provides vital insurance services to small businesses across the state. In the community, he serves on the advisory council of the United Way, and on the board of Books Are Wings, a local non-profit that aims to expand access to books for children. Prior to Cross, Carlos worked for the locally-owned insurance agency Troy, Pires & Allen, and served the city of Pawtucket in the Department of Public Works. He also served as a Community Partner for Progreso Latino, a social service non-profit in Central Falls, where he worked with students in the SKILLS after-school program. A dedicated community activist, Carlos has volunteered with the Pawtucket Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force, RI Youth Guidance, Barton Street Community Center, Paine Park and the Rhode Island Teen Institute, among many others.

In 2012, Carlos achieved his lifelong dream of joining the United States Coast Guard. He is currently enlisted as a Reserve Petty Officer.
